CINEMA IRIS

Our parent organization is the independent screening group ''IRIS-IN".
In 2010, we produced the film "Sketches of Kaitan City," which was adapted from the original novel by SATO Yasushi, a writer from Hakodate who tragically passed away in 1990. This film was a collaborative effort, involving numerous Hakodate citizens and was positioned as a film representing the people of Hakodate. The film's success led to a reevaluation of the once-forgotten writer, SATO Yasushi, prompting the republication of all his written works. Subsequently, five films based on Sato's original stories were brought to life, each set in Hakodate. These works have garnered widespread acclaim both domestically and internationally. Moving forward, our aim is to continue our activities as a cinema deeply rooted in the essence of Hakodate, crafting films that embody the spirit of this unique land.

Cinema de Aeru

The building boasts a history of approximately 200 years. Originally a sake brewery, this community theater was skillfully renovated by hand. It now serves not only as a unique screening venue curated by project members from diverse corners of the country but also as a base camp for engaging with the local community through cultural events and fostering meaningful connections.
This remarkable structure is recognized as a national tangible cultural property, surviving miraculously amidst the devastation caused by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake in a coastal town of the Tohoku region.
While visiting, you can relish the unexplored charms of the Iwate coast, its picturesque scenery, rich traditions, captivating culture, and delightful cuisine. These treasures are not yet widely known to the world, making your experience even more special and unique.

Fukaya Cinema

Fukaya Cinema is a unique movie theater, rare in Japan, as it occupies the former site of Nanatsu-ume Sake Brewery, which boasts a 300-year legacy. Located within the grounds of Nanatsuume Brewery, the cinema offers a delightful blend of shops, including cafes and second-hand bookstores, creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere.
Notably, the Nanatsuume Brewery premises have also been utilized for filming dramas and movies, adding to its allure as a multifaceted cultural hub. Since its grand opening, Fukaya Cinema has thrived, thanks to the generous support of both local and external businesses and individuals in Fukaya. The cinema's operations are overseen by the Specified non-profit organization Civic Theater F.

Cinekoya

Nestled in a lively town, the Kugenuma Kaigan Shopping Street features a delightful mix of old-fashioned greengrocers, butchers, stylish cafes, and sundry shops. Among this charming setting, Cinekoya stands as a gem, located just a short 5-minute stroll from the sea. As you step inside, you'll be greeted by shelves adorned with movie-themed books, magazines, and nostalgic pamphlets, creating an inviting space for film enthusiasts and book lovers alike.
Sink into a cozy sofa and immerse yourself in a leisurely movie experience surrounded by a treasure trove of literature. The concept of Cinekoya revolves around "movies, books, and bread," fostering a unique "movies + α" ambiance.

Ueda Eigeki

Established in 1917, this movie theater is situated at the heart of Ueda. Originally starting as a playhouse, it later transformed into a movie theater during the Showa era. In 2011, regular screenings were temporarily suspended due to changing times and the emergence of cinema complexes in the city. However, to commemorate the company's 100th anniversary, regular screenings resumed in 2017.

At our theater, we focus on showcasing high-quality films from Japan and around the world. Additionally, we take pride in featuring movies related to Nagano Prefecture and Ueda City. To encourage children to experience the magic of cinema, we offer special programs like the "Weekend Children's Cinema" and "Ueda Children's Cinema Club."

Motomachi Movie Theater

Situated in Kobe, a city nestled between mountains and the sea, where Japanese history and foreign culture intertwine, the Motomachi Movie Theater first opened its doors on August 21, 2010. Founded by Horichu, a passionate film enthusiast, and a group of like-minded fans, it quickly became a gathering place for movie lovers. Embodying the spirit of "a theater created and operated by everyone," we take pride in curating a diverse selection of films, ranging from timeless classics to thought-provoking documentaries and works by talented young directors.
Our commitment to providing a carefully chosen lineup is matched by our dedication to hosting engaging events. We frequently welcome directors and performers from the movies being screened, making these occasions especially captivating. Weekends, in particular, see a delightful flurry of multiple events.
The Motomachi Movie Theater finds its home in the vibrant Motomachi shopping district, with the port area and Chinatown just a stone's throw away. This proximity allows you to relish not only a great movie experience but also the pleasure of indulging in delectable cuisine and leisurely strolls amidst the charm of Kobe's surroundings.

Established in 2021 by SHIBATA Shuhei and MIYAKE Yuko, this quaint cinema sits atop a hill, offering breathtaking views of the lake below. As the sole mini-theater in Tottori Prefecture, it has become a cherished destination for cinephiles both local and beyond. Our carefully curated screenings include one film per month or special features based on a specific director or theme, in addition to our own specially planned showcases.
In an era where diverse works are easily accessible through digital distribution, we take pride in selecting films that deserve to be experienced in the unique atmosphere of a movie theater. Embracing the concept of "bewilderment," we present movies that prompt you to pause and reflect, inviting you to linger in the moment and engage with thought-provoking storytelling.

Onomichi is renowned as a "movie town", the birthplace of the Onomichi trilogy featuring iconic films such as OZU Yasujiro's "Tokyo Story", OBAYASHI Nobuhiko's "I Are You, You Am Me", and "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time", along with SHINDO Kaneto's "The Naked Island". Within this cinematic backdrop, Cinema Onomichi stands proudly as the sole movie theater in Onomichi City.
The cinema resides within a building with a history dating back to 1949, and in October 2008, it was opened through the support of the community, raising 27 million yen in citizen donations. Now celebrating its 15th year of operation, the cinema serves as a platform for interaction between citizens and filmmakers, fostering a deep appreciation for the art of cinema.
Aside from regular film screenings, Cinema Onomichi actively engages with the local community, particularly the younger generation, through the organization of film workshops. These workshops aim to educate children about their emotions and enrich their understanding of the world through the lens of film.

THEATER ENYA

The precursor to "THEATER ENYA" was the "Karatsu Cinema Club", founded by the community development company, Ikiiki Karatsu Co., Ltd., based on input from citizens through questionnaires. With steady dedication to regular screenings, they also developed an innovative movie theater business model. As a result, in 2019, they achieved their long-held aspiration of reviving a movie theater in Karatsu after a 22-year hiatus.
Furthermore, in 2017, they produced "HANAGATAMI", directed by OBAYASHI Nobuhiko, entirely filmed in Karatsu. Guided by the motto "Films to revitalize Karatsu and uplift people's spirits", they actively organize film festivals, contribute to the revitalization of shopping districts, and engage in cultural tourism projects.

Sakurazaka Theater

This theater is nestled in the heart of Naha City, in a quaint alley just off Kokusai Dori. After a temporary closure in April 2005, the movie theater underwent a transformative renovation and reopened in its current form in July 2005.
Beyond being a cinema, this venue offers a cafe and a shop, making it a versatile space for various activities. Moreover, on the theater's third floor, there is a workshop space where over 100 engaging lectures are conducted.
The shop boasts an array of movie-related books and DVDs, along with a selection of unique Okinawan crafts and manga. It is a favorite spot for tourists who delight in shopping while soaking in the local culture.
